On the support desks I cover, during the last couple of years I’ve seen well upwards of 40,000 questions (answered most of them, as well).

What still surprises me regularly in those support requests is the gap between those who already know how to do something and those who don’t. I’ve found most of us who already know how to do something forget how hard it can be to acquire that knowledge. You run 7 blogs so you’re very experienced, but I constantly see people who don’t really even know how to add a post – you’d think something that fundamental would be easy enough.

Good suggestion on the comment plugin. I’ve been ‘meaning to’ for a long time! Since you’ve called me out on it I’m going to do that today!

UPDATE: Hahah, that took me 5 minutes. I’ve been meaning to add such a plugin for a long time. Goes to show even the easiest jobs can sometimes get left behind.

Still, I agree with you that there are certain times when you need something simple to concentrate your visitors on whatever you are emphasizing and the less clutter the better, and if you can provide that at a cheaper cost I reckon there would be quite a few people that would take you up on it.

BTW, have you ever considered installing a ’subscribe to comment’ plugin. It’s a great way to ensure people come back to the posts that they like?

You make a fair point and for many people it may not be appropriate. There is a pretty large body of hard-core internet marketers who would find the power of WordPress, combined with the simplicity of a specialized theme, just their cup of tea.

I know you like the FlexSqueeze theme, which is a very nice theme. I’m using it myself on a couple of sites I’m building.

But a plain jane type of page in some cases is just the right look. Remove the clutter of a ’standard’ WP install and it becomes a different beast completely. I know from the questions I get on the support desk that many, many people find all the tech stuff pretty hard. Some people don’t even know that a blog is a website, for example.

I think for those who are not comfortable configuring themes and settings and the like, an easy, clean solution is beneficial.

@ Dale, welcome. I thought it might be quite nice to offer it at $7 to anyone who comments, because I got started originally with the $7 Secrets, which many people are still using today and as a pricepoint it’s pretty attractive. I also wanted to make sure readers who add value to this blog by taking the time to comment, got something back in return for their time. I know time is the most valuable commodity we all have!

@ Jim, welcome and good question! Can I turn it around and ask you what you think would make it different? Is there something that the others don’t do, that you’d like them to do? By the way, I’m not 100% sure from the wording of your question if we’re talking about the same thing. Normal 1-column themes have traditional WordPress ‘furniture’ on them, where the theme I’ll be delivering won’t.

It will make WordPress, in effect, almost a minisite generator, of sorts.

@ Douglas – absolutely right! WP is pretty powerful and Google loves blogs. In the final analysis, content is content after all so who’s to say you have to build minisites the hard way? When will it be ready? It will be ready by July 4th, which seemed a propitious day for it!

This is, without doubt, a no brainer. The idea of using probably the most powerful tool out there, Word Press, to set up your own minisites sounds dreamy to me. See Dreamy to me, I’m a poet and didn’t no it!

WordPress is very simple to install and use, you’re quite right. But hidden underneath all that simplicity is a lot of power.

By the way, I read your post http://www.comeguadagnaresoldi.it/come-aumentare-i-guadagni-con-adsense/ (I had to use Google translate since I don’t speak Italian). Your point about changing the colors of the ad blocks is a good one and something that many people don’t take the time to test. You really need to test a few variations to see which works best for your site, since there is no sure-fire way to know without testing. As you point out, the increase in revenue – if you get it right – can be significant!
